The content and format of the courses is continuously adjusted on the basis of the feedback from those attending and many former students now return to present their experiences. In addition to presentations from experts in the field, there are numerous hands-on practical sessions from which to learn.
Hundreds of new and experienced police communicators have attended the courses from most forces in the UK as well as internationally from New Zealand, Bermuda, Cyprus, Gibraltar and Jersey.
Tony retired from Lincolnshire Police at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown in 2020 after just shy of forty years with varying titles but finally as head of corporate communications.
Prior to that, he worked for four years in the Directorate of Public Affairs at the Met, which he joined after eight years as press officer for the Bermuda Police.
During his time in Lincolnshire, he also worked for government departments including the Home Office and the Foreign Office, planning, providing and coordinating pseudo media teams for numerous counter terrorism exercises in the UK and overseas, which included operations in Malaysia, Greece, Cyprus, the Caribbean and the USA.
Tony has also provided police communications-related training courses to police forces in Abu Dhabi, Bermuda and Sierra Leone.
For many years, he was an active member of the executive committee of the Association of Police Communicators serving variously as secretary, vice chair and latterly as treasurer.
